What does multi-fuel mean?
The appliance is able to burn wood or smokeless fuel.

How can I stop the glass from smoking up / staining?
It’s important to burn a good quality fuel for example well seasoned
wood will burn much better as it has a much lower moisture content.


What size stove do I need?
This depends on a number of factors i.e. size, number of windows &
doors and level of insulation. We would recommend a site survey to
ensure all these factors can be taken into consideration.


Do I need to fit a flue liner inside my chimney?
Most stove manufacturers recommend that your chimney is lined; this
will help your stove operate at the optimum efficiency and ensure all
gases are taken out of the property promptly.


Can I heat radiators with my stove?
We have a selection of stoves that are capable of heating radiators.

Can I have a stove even if I don’t have a chimney?
In most cases yes, we have supplied and installed stoves and
chimneys into properties that previously did not have a chimney.


How often does the chimney need sweeping?
Ideally this should be completed a minimum of twice a year by a
suitably qualified chimney sweep.


I live in a smoke control area; can I still use a stove?
Yes, we stock a range of smoke exempt stoves suitable for smoke control areas.

How long has Bower and Child been in business?
We have been in business for over 150 years.

Will I need ventilation into the room?
This depends on the heat output of the stove; generally anything
over 5kw output will require ventilation.
